Smooth Breast Implants

Breast implants are a well-liked cosmetic choice that many women are making today. Through a breast augmentation surgery women can have the desired breast shape that they have always wanted. When it comes to breast implants there are several options available. A good cosmetic surgeon will be able to discuss, in details, the pros and cons of each implant.

The outer shell of a breast implant is a decision that patients and cosmetic surgeons will need to decide upon before the surgery is ever performed. Breast implants come in a textured shell or in a smooth one.

Smooth shell breast implants mimic the feel of a balloon. They can come in both silicone and saline options. The outer shells of the smooth implants are thinner than those of the textured variety and some say they have a more realistic feel to them.

Incisions created at the time of the breast enlargement are smaller when smooth implants are used. This is one of the perks that the smooth shell has over the textured type. Many cosmetic surgeons prefer to use smooth over textured because it is easier for them to place correctly. They are also cheaper than many of the textured types of breast implants available today.

While the smooth shell breast implants have many great qualities about them, there are also some drawbacks to the person that chooses them. One of the drawbacks of choosing a smooth shell implant is the style limitation. The preferred teardrop breast implant is mainly created with the textured surface. There are some available in the smooth texture but many cosmetic surgeons do not like to use them. The smooth implant also has more complications of shifting than the textured types do. This means that the implant can move from its position easier than the textured because the outer skin of the implant has nothing for the breast tissue to adhere to.
